Art in Margate, Kent

Outside the Square Art Gallery opened in close proximity to the new Turner Contemporary and is itself situated in the beautiful old town of Margate in a gorgeous Victorian building.  Allison Carmichael's artwork will be displayed at the art gallery alongside such prominent artists as Brian McCann, Jim Houston, John Morris and Kerry Strongman.

Allison Carmichael is a British landscape and portrait painter and illustrator who lives and paints in Languedoc-Roussillon, South France. She is a fine art graduate of Goldsmiths University College, London, but has since travelled the world, taking her inspiration from many cultures.  She believes that the world should have no boundaries and considers herself an international artist.

Allison works in many media, from oil and acrylics on canvas, to computer art.  She is a colourist, using the rich, bold and vibrant colours of France to capture the French landscapes and bring her paintings to life.   She loves the rich ochre earth and the azure sea reflecting the bluest of blue skies found in the Mediterranean.  She is inspired by the beautiful landscapes of Southern France and by the beauty of the human form.

Allison illustrated and co-wrote 'The Da Vinci Game', designed the cover and 19 illustrations for 'And Anyway About Me' by Tara Shilling and has 6 illustrations featured in Martin Dawber's Big Book of Contemporary Illustration.

Her paintings grace the walls of many a home or office and her portrait commissions include paintings for Lauren Booth and Annabelle Apsion.  Her work has been featured on ITV in ‘The Grail Trail’, on the covers of magazines and books and over 20 articles have been published about her in different newspapers and magazines.

You can view more of Allison's landscape paintings on her French landscape page.
